Candle Making

Are you the type of person that enjoys new experiences? Are you that friend that is always down to try whatever crazy idea your friends come up with? I’m definitely the girlfriend who is willing to try just about anything … within reason of course. This past year I attempted so many new experiences, even in the midst of a pandemic. I read over 30 books in one year, which is a huge accomplishment for me. I’ve experienced a virtual wine tasting, virtual book clubs, attempted to learn to use chop sticks, compliments to my coworker, and I tried caviar for the first time.

This past weekend, my daughter Sydney and I ventured out to Candle Fusion in downtown St. Charles, MO and made candles. This was such a cool experience! They offered a wonderful selection of candles and a variety of unique scents which made it easy for us to create the candles that captured what we wanted. I chose a blend of jade, clothesline, goji berry, and old books … that’s right, I said old books. Once we selected the scents that we liked and chose the size candle that we were making, we took a seat at the candle making bar. Our attendant provided our scented oils, measuring cup, spoon, jigger, and wax.

Mixing the oils to find just the right balance made me feel like a scientist mixing up a potion in a lab—it was a lot of fun! The overall experience took about 45 minutes, but then we had wait on our candles to harden before we were able to take them home. Once I went back to pick up my candle, I was amazed at how fragrant it was. I am looking forward to burning it and I’m so glad I was able to have this experience with my daughter!
