Finding Balance

Being a self-published author means you must get accustom to wearing many different hats simultaneously. If all I had to focus on was writing, I’d have it made. Unfortunately as an indie author, I am responsible for networking and constantly making new contacts. I manage my own social media content and I handle all scheduling in regards to speaking engagement and meetings with prospective partners. I’m in charge of marketing and photography just to name a few. In between doing this work, I also have to find time to write books.

Balance is the name of the game. I work full-time and finding the time to follow through on book related business can be tough. I’ve just completed book three in the Zoey Lyndon chapter book series and I’m excited to be able to offer a box set to my readers. At some point, I will have to break down and hire a virtual assistant to help me with the day to day work, but until then, it will continue to be just me—handling everything.

I have to remind myself that self-care is important and try to schedule regular trips to the spa. Finding time to rest and take care of myself is essential to my productivity. I also tap into my support system, constantly bouncing ideas off of them. If you don’t have a circle of friends that challenge, celebrate, and encourage you to be your best, you should absolutely make this a priority. I thank God for my family and my author friends who inspire me to be the best version of myself. Are you finding balance in your life? If not, what’s stopping you?
